Marketing Department Call of Duty: Black Ops blows away sales records

Travelling in the US at the moment, I have been exposed to the relative sh*tstorm that has been the marketing of the new video game Call of Duty: Black Ops

Seriously, a SWAT team could have invaded my living room and I wouldn’t have thought anything was out of the ordinary.

It therefore doesn’t surprise me that this is the highest grossing entertainment launch ever with $360M in sales in the first day. That kills anything Hollywood could come up with.

But I want to know just how big their marketing budget was, because I have never experienced anything like this, the recent mid-term elections didn’t even get this much coverage.

Firstly check out their TVC “There’s a soldier in all of us”. There is more stars in it than a night at the Oscars.

Then Jeep release a Call of Duty: Black Ops Wrangler. What the hell is this, reverse product placement?

I may sound angry, but really I am jealous I wasn’t part of this launch. This was a marketers dream!
