MTV has a lot to answer for…

After being on the road for 5 months, I’ve finally settled down, well at least for a little while into an apartment in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

One of the great, but also the worst things about travelling is not having access to TV. So I was glad to discover that when I moved into the apartment it has Cable TV with over 80 channels.

Unfortunately, only a few of the channels are in English, one of which is MTV. So for the last few days I have been subjected the rubbish of Sweet 16, Cribs, and Paris Hilton’s search for a new best friend (please kill me!).

One show I did miss however is rapper Xzibit’s Pimp My Ride, where beat up cars are turned into hotted up boy racers.

The influence of this show has been wide reaching, with “Pimp My _____” appearing everywhere.

Which is fine, but this time I think it has gone to far.

A streetwear and music store I recently passed in Palermo has called itself “Pimp My Kid”.

Now I don’t know about you, but I think this is totally inappropriate branding.

Have people forgotten what the word “pimp” actually means?
